 Weather

It is the atmospheric state of a place which changes everyday and can change within a day.

It includes the heat, cloudiness, dryness, wind, sunshine and rain.

The elements of weather are given below:

  • Temperature - due to the latitude, altitude, wind and snow, the earth gets heated unequally and thus it causes     different weather conditions on earth. It is measured using a thermometer.

  • Wind- it plays an important role in weather forecasting. It is measured using an anemometer.

  • Humidity-  the 2 types of humidity are absolute and relative humidity, it helps in understanding the water vapor present in the air. It is measured using a hygrometer

  • Rainfall- The relative humidity can predict the chances of precipitation. Rainfall is measured using a rain gauge.

 Climate

The weather conditions that an area experiences for a long time is known as its climate. Latitudes, altitude, closeness to sea and wind are the factors that affect the climate of a place. Tropical, Frigid and Temperate are the 3 climatic zones of the Earth.

Adaptation

The special abilities that help organisms to dwell in their habitat are known as adaptations.

Polar regions- they are usually covered with snow and are extremely cold. Animals like polar bears who live there have wide paws, long claws, blubbers and are warm-blooded. They can easily camouflage themselves. Penguins and seals are examples of other species that live in these areas.

Tropical rainforests- these places are hot and humid as they are close to the equator. Different animals like the lion-tailed macaque (has long tails), toucan bird (grow on tall trees) and elephants ( has long tusks) live here.

Deserts- these places have low humidity and are extremely dry. So very few animals and plants have adapted to survive these harsh and extreme climates. Some of the animals that reside here are camels (have wide feet and need less water to survive), kangaroo rats (survive from the water present in the seeds they eat and have an extremely sharp hearing sense which helps them hide from predators) and fennec foxes (have hairy feet and, bat-like ears which helps in reducing the heat).
